    Vehicle sales up 8.6% in November

    KUALA LUMPUR: Total vehicle sales rose 8.6% to 48,702 units in November, from the 44,845 units sold in the same month last year, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

    It also said that November sales were down 9%, or 4,913 units, from October.

    Drop in June car sales

    Amended Hire-Purchase Act said to be causing delays

    PETALING JAYA: The amendments to the Hire-Purchase Act 1967 (HPA) that took effect on June 15 has caused delays in vehicle registrations and should result in lower total industry sales for the month.

    Car players said the drop did not mean people were buying fewer cars but reflected the longer time to book a sale and they expect the registration numbers to smoothen out in July.

    May vehicle sales fall to 46,045 units

    KUALA LUMPUR: Vehicle sales in May fell for the first time this year to 46,045 units from 50,883 units in the same period last year.

    The fall in sales was due to the shortfall in production from April 2011, which has resulted in insufficient supply to meet deliveries, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said in a statement. Read More

    April vehicle sales increase 4.4% to 50,936 units

    PETALING JAYA: Vehicle sales rose 4.4% to 50,936 units in April from 48,812 units in the same month last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

    However, vehicle production slipped 24.7% to 37,419 units in April due to downward adjustments in production due to supply interruption of some original equipment components caused by the massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March.
