Remanufacturing & Recycling

Remanufacturing is the process of restoring existing parts or components to ‘as good as new’ condition using a standardized industrial process in line with specific technical specifications. Malaysia’s existing manufacturing base, and the availability of an established used & recycle parts industry, creates the potential for a sustainable remanufacturing industry. However, to support the green initiatives of the NAP 2014, consumers need to be aware of the environmental impacts of incorrectly disposing used parts, and even vehicles.

Components for remanufacturing Components that can be remanufactured include the following automotive sub-systems:

a) autotronics

b) aircond system;

c) braking system;

d) drivetrain system;

e) engine;

f) engine parts; and

g) steering and suspension system.

As the automotive industry continues to advance, the sustainability of the environment becomes a pressing issue. The survival of both the automotive industry and the environment is largely dependent on government regulation and more importantly, consumer awareness. The NAP 2014 is not only about producing EEVs, but also stresses on the development of a green automotive ecosystem. Processes have to also be energy efficient and environmental friendly, from when a car is produced all the way to the point where the car is no longer road-safe.
